An IT Manager Is Looking for a New Job

I am an Information Technology (IT) Manager that was recently a victim of a staff downsize.

I am 50 years old and I had been with my previous company for 15 years.

I am having difficulty getting back into the job market and I am thinking about getting a career coach.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

The most important steps you need to take in finding a new Information Technology (IT) job will include learning top-paying, in-demand IT skills, getting highly-marketable IT experience, sending well-written resumes to multiple job postings and finally learning how to ace the IT job interview!

How To Get In-Demand IT Job Skills

Finding a good IT job starts with learning top-paying / in-demand information technology (IT) skills.

These types of skills can only be gained through hands-on, real-world experience developed while working on or managing cutting-edge IT projects / technologies!

Now, while project management skills in general are helpful, technical project management skills are even better because skills gained as a technical project manager (TPM) are now in high-demand!

What Are Cutting-Edge IT Projects / Skills?

These are projects that use cutting-edge technologies to streamline or automate business processes, reduce costs or increase sales!

For example, software development projects that utilize mobile / responsive technologies can increase sales by making a company's prescence stronger or better on the mobile web.

Along the same lines, IT projects that use modern software development languages like CSharp, Java, PHP to streamline or automate business processes can also reduce costs, increase operational efficiencies or even increase sales!

It is important that you show yourself as a handson manager or as the type of manager who is not afraid of getting your hands dirty!

That really does mean that a hands-on technical background in data analysis / database design / software development / business analysis can help you too!

How the Information Technology (IT) Job Market Works

The IT job market works like a numbers game and that means you will need to get your resume into the hands of many hiring managers bearing in mind that the more jobs you apply to, the higher your chances of getting hired!

A well-written resume would highlight the hands-on skills and experience gained while managing or delivering cutting-edge projects.

It is also important that your resume highlights how much you have saved or how much you have helped your company's revenues or profits by delivering your projects on-time and under-budget.
